WebDesktop is easy to set up to work with an existing AD or LDAP server, and there are also options for interfacing the system via the SOAP or XML-RPC layer, the database layer or the API layer. While the first three allow WebDesktop to interface with other information systems, the API interface allows for enhancements at the application layer.
On the basis of WebDesktop, for example, the new drafting system EMS of the Riigikogu, the information system for Estonian schools EKIS (now “Kaustik”), the information system for environmental permits KLIS2, the work process management system for OÜ VKG Elektrivõrgud, the system for processing financial documents for ISS Haldus, the information system of the Labour Inspectorate and many others have been created.
The API interface is documented in English and includes examples of functions. It is estimated that 40% of WebDesktop installations are integrated or upgraded according to user preferences.
